WINSTON-SALEM—The N.C. Department of Labor will hold a press conference at 10:30 a.m. on October 4, 2019 to announce the progress and status of the amusement ride inspection process ahead of the Dixie Classic Fair.
NC Labor Commissioner Cherie Berry and NCDOL staff will speak about the inspection process, status of the rides and other relevant information about steps to ensure the safety of all rides at the fair.
Every amusement ride that comes to North Carolina is fully inspected and certified by the N.C. Department of Labor’s Elevator and Amusement Device Bureau before it is allowed to operate. Amusement rides are inspected each time they are moved and reassembled at different locations across the state. North Carolina is one of only two states in the nation that require rides to be 100 percent compliant with manufacturer’s specifications before the ride is approved.
Ride inspectors will arrive at the fairgrounds several days prior to its opening to begin the inspection process of the amusement rides. James E. Strates Shows has provided midway rides at the Dixie Classic Fair since 1964.
