WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (SEPTEMBER 26, 2023)—The James E. Strates Shows, exclusive midway provider for the Carolina Classic Fair, is celebrating the 100th anniversary of its founding during 2023.
To celebrate, Strates Shows will be offering 100 minutes of free midway rides on Opening Day of the Carolina Classic Fair, Friday, September 29 starting at 3 p.m. and continuing for 100 minutes until 4:40 p.m. All free rides end at 4:40 p.m. (Mechanical rides only. Manufacturer height, age & weight restrictions apply. Operation of midway & promotion subject to weather. No rain date.)
2023 will mark the continuation of a 59-year partnership between the City of Winston-Salem and midway provider James E. Strates Shows. It’s a historic outdoor amusement legacy that began in 1964 and has been a Winston-Salem tradition ever since.
This year’s Strates Shows Midway will feature over 75 rides, attractions, and concessions. The Carolina Classic Fair runs Friday, September 29 to October 8.

Celebrating its 141ST year in 2023, the Carolina Classic Fair is owned and operated by the City of Winston-Salem after being donated to the City by the Winston-Salem Foundation in 1969. The 10-day annual Fair features nationally renowned musical entertainment, delicious food, and beverages, exhibits for livestock, poultry, fine arts and crafts, a world-class carnival with numerous rides and games, and many more activities.
